Corylus avellana x (Hazelnut hybrid)
Can be pruned to multistem shrub or single trunk tree. Begins producing nuts in 3rd year. Pruning suckers (from base) and thinning crossing and excess branches (opening to suinlight) is important to nut production. Cut stems are used as withes in basketry. Can be coppiced as a shrub. Squirrel predation can be a problem.
